Quote of the day

"My favorite sport at school was rugby. All sports are teamwork, but rugby particularly is about teamwork and I think teamwork is the essence of this. "

50th Anniversary

In 2009, the club celebrated it's 50th Anniversary with a weekend of golf, rugby, BBQ, partying, a banquet and lots of story telling... We had more than 165 past players turn up, many traveling across the country and the some even across the world to make the Rams big weekend celebration.

Months of planning by the 50th Committee ensured a good time was had by all. 45 players, past and present, took the field for the much anticipated alumni game, with the most notable being Don Brander, at the ripe old age of ...etc, etc

Quotes from the weekend:

-    Alun Spackman (Current Rams President) - "It was such a great weekend. To see so many past players, hear so many funny and sometimes unrepeatable stories of past tours, players and matches was something I was proud to be a part of. The current crop of players had a chance to rub shoulders with past internationals and see how a rugby party should be enjoyed, and the whole weekend was enjoyed by everyone."

-    Andy Marshal (An old guyser) - "Heartfelt thanks to you and the organizing committee for all the
work and effort that went into the Rams 50th Anniversary activities. I was only able to attend the Saturday dinner, but it was an excellent event -- with great company, smoothly run, good food, and entertaining speakers. You are all to be commended. I hope those currently operating the club will see the extent of the good will towards its ongoing success. The womens side of the club seems strong, and there is potential for great strides on the mens side. Hopefully, that potential can be built upon in the coming years. Also, hopefully, the current club leadership can feel it can call on the help of the old gang as it grasps these opportunities. Best wishes to you and all the Rams executive."

-    Pam and Tony Ashton - "I would like to add my thanks to all those involved in the Anniversary for the terrific job they did. The Rams have always had a reputation for being the best club off the field and it was confirmed last weekend. From what I saw of the 1st team game and the ladies games there was evidence that the club has nearly enough talent and energy to improve the on field record as well. We really enjoyed the weekend and hope that it gets the club going on the playing field in the near future. Thanks again and good luck."

-    Don Brander (Oldest guy to play in the Alumni game) - "Who would have thought 50 years ago that a member of The Rams Womens Rugby Club would head up the 50th Anniversary celebration. It all came off so well and was so much fun thanks to you and your team, Angela and Suzy, Alun and Fred, and Ron Schwieger the communication man, Dan and Irv, Wayne and all the speakers, the guys from New Brunswick, guys from Vernon, Kelowna, Vancouver, Edson, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Australia and the Calgary guys that came out after so many years.
Missing were a number of South Calgary and Killarney guys that played football in the park at South Calgary Community that went on to form the Rams. To name a few; Wayne Beebe, Al Farnish, Bob Adams, Don McNamee, Bill Snody, Tom Folie, Pat Burns and others I can't remember their names, ask Billy Dawson. Mike Smith who used to run from past 45th street on Richmond Rd down to the park for practices and then run home again. Then the guys like Ray Hugo, Frank Wright, Al Huskisson, Ken Barriss, Andrew Martin, Tony Ashton (present), Art Scotten, Bob Moffat (present), who came over and helped make us the club we were in those days."
