Age Grade Program Information

U5, U7, U9 – Non‑Contact Flag Rugby

These age groups play non‑contact, flag rugby with an emphasis on passing, running with the ball, evasion skills, and—most importantly—fun. Coaches focus on Active Start and FUNdamentals, helping players develop a broad range of motor skills rather than specializing too early in sport‑specific movements.

U11 – Intro to Contact Rugby

U11 rugby introduces controlled contact in a 7‑on‑7 format with modified fields and rules. Players learn safe tackling techniques (below the waist), along with basic 1‑on‑1 rucking and mauling. The emphasis is on proper technique, strategy, and enjoyment. Coaches follow the “Learn to Train” stage of the LTAD model, using a games‑based approach to teach core rugby skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

U13 – Developing Skills & Strength

U13 rugby is a contact league played 13‑on‑13 with modified fields and rules. Coaches continue to emphasize the “Learn to Train” and “Train to Train” stages of development. The goal is to refine sport‑specific skills, build physical capacity, and prepare athletes for the increasing demands of competitive rugby.

U15 – Training to Compete

U15 rugby is a full‑contact, 15‑on‑15 league with standard rules. Coaching focuses on the “Train to Compete” stage, introducing more specialized and position‑specific skills. Players begin to follow more individualized training plans to support their growth. Older U15 athletes may also begin playing summer rugby with the U16 group.

U16 – Summer Contact Rugby

U16 rugby runs in the summer after the high school season concludes. This full‑contact, 15‑on‑15 league continues to emphasize the “Train to Compete” stage, with a strong focus on personal fitness, accountability, and performance ownership. Many games are recorded and reviewed with players to support technical and tactical development. Individualized training plans become increasingly important at this level.

U18 – Training to Win

U18 rugby is a summer contact league that begins after the high school season. Coaching shifts toward the “Train to Compete” and “Train to Win” stages, where athletes refine advanced physical, technical, and tactical skills. Players train with the goal of maximizing performance and competing at the highest level.
