Job Title: Head Coach – Women’s Program Location: Calgary, Alberta Club: Calgary Rams Rugby Club Program: Women’s Rugby (Premier & Development Teams) Job Type: Part-Time Position Overview: The Calgary Rams Rugby Club is seeking an experienced, passionate, and dynamic individual to lead our Women’s Rugby Program as the Head Coach of our Premier Team for the 2025 season. The ideal candidate will have a strong rugby coaching background, excellent leadership qualities, and the ability to develop and inspire players at all levels. This role will oversee both the Premier and Development teams working with an assistant / development team coach, ensuring the growth and success of each team while fostering a positive, inclusive, and competitive environment. The position would require commitment throughout the summer months, April through August. Practices are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Games are on Saturdays with the occasional mid-week game. Travel to Lethbridge, Red Deer and Edmonton required. Key Responsibilities:
- Coaching & Development:
- Lead training sessions, match preparation, and game strategies for the Premier and Development women’s teams. Will lead the Premier team and work with an assistant / development team coach to deliver consistent and progressive training across both teams.
- Foster player development, focusing on technical, tactical, physical, and mental growth.
- Customize coaching strategies to address the distinct needs of players on the teams.
- Team Management & Leadership:
- Provide leadership and mentorship to players, creating a culture of respect, inclusivity, and excellence.
- Maintain open communication with players, team captains, and club administration to ensure alignment with program goals.
- Collaborate with other coaching staff to ensure cohesion across all club programs.
- Match Day Operations:
- Prepare match-day strategies, player rosters and rotations.
- Ensure the teams are match-ready both physically and mentally.
- Manage in-game decisions, and adjust strategies during matches.
- Player Recruitment & Retention:
- Support the recruitment of talented players to join both teams.
- Retain and support existing players, providing growth opportunities.
- Program Growth:
- Collaborate with the club’s administration to establish long-term goals for the women’s program.
- Develop and implement initiatives to enhance the visibility and reputation of the women’s program within the rugby community.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Previous coaching experience in high level rugby (women’s rugby experience is an asset).
- Experience coaching or managing teams across different skill levels is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of rugby tactics, strategy, and player development.
- Coaching Certifications:
- NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) Level 2 (or equivalent) coaching certification
- World Rugby – Concussion Protocol online course
- World Rugby – Rugby Ready online course
- World Rugby – Referee Laws of the Game online course
